Richard Birch

Graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from an English University, Richard Birch found himself travelling and spent two years teaching English in Japan. Whilst there, Richard made the decision to pursue his lifelong passion for Photography and on his return to Sydney began studying at Sydney College of the Arts. Upon graduating Richard assisted both advertising and fashion photographers, in Sydney and later in London.

In 2000 Richard began his own career as a fashion photographer. Whilst on these shoots he found that his eye would always move, curiously, beyond the fashion and his model, and more toward the space that she inhabited. He felt far more of an affinity to the style and design of the image and it was this that compelled him to make the obvious move to interiors and still life.

Still with a keen interest in shooting people, Richard is commissioned more and more for portraiture. With his return to Australia, in 2005, he very quickly gained commissions from John McGrath's "Space Magazine" to shoot their covers, still life, interiors and portraits. Richard shoots regularly for Space, Sunday Life, Real Living and Vive Magazines.

Richard and his family live in Sydney, Australia.
